Dear president,

This is the 4th consecutive year that will take place the International Canyoning Meeting of Spain, GORGS 2007 during the 1 ,2 and 3 of June 2007 in Tremp (Lérida). Previous editions have shown a big growing of GORGS, being more and more considered the meeting point for canyoning people, not only at sport level but also at federative and profesional level. Last year it joined a total of 231 people from all the countries, what make GORGS the most crowded meeting ever occurred in Europe. It is a pleasure for us to inform that this year, as always, we introduce new features and ideas.

In parallel will take place the Ist International Canyoneering Congress during which it will take place conferences about reequipement and cotation. Please confirm your assistance if interested.

Moreover, we would like to communicate that this year GORGS will be organized by FEEC (Mountaineering Federation of Catalonia) and FCE (Speleology Federation of Catalonia). Along November’06, after conversations between both federations, an agreement was arranged as a prize for the time and effort dedicated from both sides. The result has been an agreement to work together, the first of this kind that has been signed in Spain.

The guidelines of the agreement are:

• Technical Learning Seminars organized ensemble (already scheduled, Wild Watter and Auto-Rescue to take place in February and March)
• Catalog the whole set of canyons of Catalonia. Publish them with journals webs.
• Joint representation in the Public Administration to promote the free access to the mountain.
• Collaborate and organize the Gorgs 2007.
• Homologation of the basis formation of both federations in the area of Canyoning discipline.

In paralel, will take place the 1st International Congres about Canyoneering with conferences. If you would like to participate please write us to barrancs@feec.org.

We hope this meeting will be useful not only to promote the activity, but also to be a serious information channel for any person interested in this discipline

GORGS2006 , IIIrd International Canyoneering Meeting in Spain
The days 23, 24 and 25 of June, took place in the village of Ribes de Freser (Girona), the 3rd International Canyoneering Meeting - Gorgs2006- organized by the FEEC. It was really a success of participation, 231 people coming, not only from the country, but of different countries of the world, Italy, USA, France, Brazil… which had the occasion to know the canyons of the region and they could share moments with other people who also did canyoneering, thus allowing the exchange of impressions, technique and opinion on the world of this sport, who, little by little, is getting specialized. Nowdays is one of the canyoneering meetings more important in the the world until now, in terms of participation and variety of contents.
Each registered person received after paying only 20E, a T-shirt of the event, there was a little pic-nic, a small book with descents of the region (kindness of Eduardo Gómez) revised and updated by the Canyoning Club Punto Límite and published again by the CCPL, the FEEC, the Regional Council of Ripollès and Caixa de Girona, the dinner of Saturday, the right to sleep in the camp-site two nights, service of nursery, the cotillón for the festivity of San Juan and various flatteries of the collaborators of Gorgs2006. For this edition we made 300 T-shirts, 400 small books, 200 cotillions, 220 dinners, occuppied 180 places in the camp-site and people made new friends. The average age of people who carried out the inscription was really not too much high, comparing there rsults with others meetings where the average age is higher. It is promising to see that this sport is growing as a discipline itself, and these kind of meetings reinforce the entity of it.
Friday morning was the first day of the meeting, the drainage of people grew little by little, between Friday evening and Saturday morning arrived most of the participants. The showroom of Ribes de Freser was the basis for the mini fair of material of canyoneering, opened to the public in general. Collaborators like Resurgence, Rock King, Korda' S, Una Muntanya de Llibres and llibreria Sant Jordi offered to the public their products. The FEEC also had a stand in which people made/confirm the inscriptions and in which people could have free magazines of VERTEX, the magazine of the federation.
The afternoon started with a pic-nic offered by the Ajuntament de Ribes de Freser. After that, the projections and conferences began as in each Gorgs and were open to the general public. Projections on Makai, Gorgas de Lis, the technical conference on the Kordas ropes and canyoneering in the Pyrenees, they heated engines to finish Saturday the afternoon with projections on the Pyrenees, Madeira, Brazil, Crete, winter canyoneering, and things like the descent of the canyon of Añisclo and one of the first descents of Sa Fosca canyon (Majorque).
Once the projections session ended, it took place the dinner with all the participants, in a hotel of the village of Ribes de Freser. Before finishing the dinner the organization delivered some prices: to the national veterans, J. Anglada and Elisabeth Vergès; to the international veteran, Romano Perotto; to the organization which made more diffusion of the descent canyon, Miguel Ortega and Sento Millán; special mention to the person who diffused this sport, Alex Batllori; to the club adhered to the FEEC which promoted this sport, the Excursionista Union from Vic taken by Jordi Cunill; to the best audio-visual; “Canyoning in Madeira 2005” and to the Ajuntament de Ribes by its collaboration.
Sunday continued with the tonic of the descents and, at the request of certain participants, some projections were passed again.
